Joyce Jean (Sanders) Tramel Obituary
Hudson resident, Joyce Jean (Sanders) Tramel, aged 81, died December 29 after a brief illness.
Born June 29, 1937 in Shake Rag (Pleasant Grove), Texas, she lived much her adult life in Painesville, Ohio and Niagara Falls, New York before retiring in Hudson with her loving husband of 59 years, Charles.
After graduating from Overton (Texas) High School and attending Kilgore (Texas) Junior College, she worked as a telephone operator in Houston before becoming a full-time mother and housekeeper. When her children were older, she worked for several years as a paraprofessional with the Painesville (Ohio) City Schools.
Joyce was also active in several volunteer organizations throughout her life. Joyce was known for her acerbic wit, an astute sense of practicality, and a loyal devotion to her extended family and multitude of friends. All who met her were immediately overcome by her outsized personality and southern twang, and few ever forgot her. An avid reader, she would devour several novels per week, and often had country music playing in the house and her car. Joyce enjoyed solving word and jigsaw puzzles, tending to her large gardens, and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. She looked forward to monthly Bunco games with her neighborhood ladies’ group, and was always quick to cook meals for all who visited her home, whether announced or not. Her baked goods were legendary with her children and grandchildren, their friends, neighborhood youngsters, and any service providers she employed.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her son, Charles Tramel, of Medina, Ohio; daughter, Leslie Becka (Ron), of Hudson; her grandchildren, Brian Becka, of Lakewood, Ohio, Charles (Chad) Tramel, of Chicago, Illinois, Eryn Tramel, of Whitehall, Ohio, and Rachel Becka, of Hudson; her brother, A.D. Sanders, of Good Springs, Texas; sister, Joan Nelson, of Fairview, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Autry and Jewell (Honey) Sanders; and her brothers, Mayburn (Pete) and Ervin (Andy) Sanders.
At her family’s request, there will be no public viewing or memorial service.
A family gathering of remembrance will be arranged for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joyce’s honor to the Hudson Library and Historical Society or to The .
