Norman A. Smyke Sr. Obituary
Norman A. Smyke Sr., 85 of Concord Twp., passed away July 11, 2018 at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Hts. He was born June 7, 1933 in Cleveland.
Mr. Smyke was a Real Estate Developer for many years. He attended Cathedral Latin High School and went on to Kent State University where he was President of the ATO Fraternity. Later in life he taught his passion for Real Estate at Kent State. His career took off early in life when in his 30's he became the President of the Bates & Springer Company. He then went on to form his own Real Estate and Management company, Normandy Development. For many years, Norman was one of the largest home builders and land developers in Lake and Ashtabula Counties. Throughout his life he always believed in giving back to the community. He was active as a Leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He served for many years as a Madison Village Councilman. He also worked for the Lake County Small Business Assistance Corp for nearly 20 years. He was a devout supporter of .
Norman enjoyed skiing and was a ski instructor. He loved vacationing in Florida and playing golf. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and he especially loved his grandchildren. He was loved and admired and is greatly missed.
Survivors include his sons, Dr. Norman (Mary Kay) Smyke, and Jonathan (Jennifer) Smyke; his companion, Nancy Policoff; grandchildren, Christopher (Erin), Matthew, Timothy (Emily), Aimee, Sabrina and Carter Smyke; sister, Carol (Bill) Sedlak; and his former wife, Andrea Smyke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Stella Smiechewicz and his brother, Jerome Smyke.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Mary Church, 242 North State St., Painesville (Please meet at the church.) Private family inurnment will be held at St. Mary Cemetery in Painesville at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Norman, memorial contributions may be made to the , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Donate online at www.stjude.org.
