Rand D. Barnes Sr., age 68, of Jamestown, Pa., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in Greenville, Pa.
He was born March 4, 1950 in Bangor, Maine.
Rand was a very proud father who always supported the endeavors of his sons. He was an avid bowler, he loved music and singing, and he loved riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed watching the Indians and Browns and always had the answers on how to turn the organizations around. They never listened.
Rand loved to be around people and make them laugh. Even when he was sick he was cracking jokes and making goofy faces.
He was a former police officer and was the first full time police chief of Burton, Ohio. He also served the Russell Twp. Police Department.
He enjoyed coordinating and attending breakfasts with the "Geauga County Old Timers" AKA "Old Farts" group. They are "a good bunch," as he liked to sign off on his emails saying, of his brothers in law enforcement.
He is survived by his sons, Rand Barnes Jr. of Columbus, and Erik (Emily) Barnes who is currently serving in U.S. Navy; brother, Jay (Nancy) Barnes of Palm Bay, Fla.; loving girlfriend Julie Hill of Geneva; sisters-in-law, Patricia Barnes of New Lyme Township, Ohio and Carol Barnes of Jamestown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard L. and Doris E. (nee: Philbrick) Barnes; brothers, Gary Barnes, James Barnes, and Herbert Barnes.
