Ashtabula – Dr. Robert Malinowski, 84, died Sunday, December 6, 2020 at UH – Geneva Medical Center.Known affectionately to most as “Doc”, he was born September 15, 1936 in Detroit, MI, the son of Frank and Angeline (Solek) Malinowski and had been an Ashtabula resident since 1975.A 1954 graduate of Holy Redeemer High School, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree at Wayne State University and then received his Doctorate of Osteopathy from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.Doc started his career as an anesthesiologist at NEO Hospital and then transitioned to Emergency Medicine. He eventually settled into Occupational Medicine and started the 1st Occupational Health Clinic in Ashtabula County. Prior to his retirement, he served as the Ashtabula County Coroner from 1975 to 2010, being elected to the position 9 times after his original appointment in 1975.He served on the board of the Ashtabula County Health Department for 47 years, including 19 years as the President from 2000 till his retirement in 2019. Doc also served as the President of the Ohio State Coroners Association for 4 years. He was actively involved with the Ashtabula County Republican Party.Doc enjoyed reading, model ship building, gardening, woodworking, model railroading. Proud of his accomplishment, Doc has a model of the U.S.S. Flagship Niagara on display at the Maritime Museum. His survivors include his wife, Mary A. (Styborski) Malinowski; nine children, Mark (Tina) Offensend of Conneaut, Monica Offensend of Jefferson, Marshall ”Muggs” (Suzanne) Malinowski of Pooler, GA, Robert (Katie) Malinowski of Concord, Rebecca (Rick) DeGeorge of Jefferson, Timothy (Alane) Malinowski of Greenville, SC, Kenneth (Cathy) Malinowski of Columbus, Kay (Bob) Curtindale of Madison, and Sandra (John) Kraus of Greenville, SC; 22 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Malinowski of VA; one sister, Christine Neelis of CO; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by two children, Michael A. Offensend in 2010 and Mary Lee Offensend in 1980, his brother, Gene Malinowski and his parents.A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Calasanctius Church, 32 East Jefferson Street, Jefferson. Fr. John Ettinger will preside. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Plymouth Twp.
