HUGHES SPRINGS -- Memorial services for John Arthur Arceneaux, 59, of Lone Star, will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Cedar Springs Baptist Church on Highway 259 North in Ore City. John went to join his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 18, 2006, after his courageous battle with cancer. John was born November 26, 1946, in Longview, to Joseph Guy and Minnie Louise Arceneaux. He attended Judson schools, where he was a pitcher for the Judson Blue Devils baseball team. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Army and served four years, training for a career in radiology. Upon his discharge from the U.S. Army, he continued a career as an X-ray technician for 30 years, leaving this profession to return to his true passion of brick masonry, following in his father's footsteps. He was the owner of TCB Masonry at the time of his death. His beautiful work is displayed throughout the East Texas area. John enjoyed fishing with his fishing partner, Bill Matthews, and taking care of his family and his dogs, April, Maggie, and Buck. Mr. Arceneaux was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Addie "Mama" Young and Raud Young; and his wife, Nelda Arceneaux. Left behind to cherish his precious memory are his wife, Marcene Arceneaux of Lone Star; daughters, Kari and husband, Jeremy Byrd, and Kristie Arceneaux of Grapeland; and mother of his daughters, Mary Brown, also of Grapeland. He was "Big John" to granddaughters, Emily and Kalee Walker, and Brittni Byrd of Grapeland; also step-grandchildren including Maverick, Jed, Emily, and Kendall Elwell of Ore City, and Isabelle Julian of Columbia, Missouri. His step-sons are Chad Elwell and Kevin Elwell of Ore City, and Marty Julian of Columbia, Missouri. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Nell Matthews of Longview, Joye Andrews, and Mayvonne Case of Ore City; brothers-in-law, Glen Reynolds of Pittsburg, David Reynolds, and Joe Reynolds of Ore City; special cousin, Tommy Young of Longview; lifelong friend, Charles Skinner of Longview; and many extended family members and friends. He is now at home where he can have eternal rest which he never took time to do while here on earth, and be free from his pain and suffering. John was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. The family extends heartfelt thanks for all the support, care, and prayers from friends and family. Special thanks to Dr. Sharma and staff at the Longview Cancer Center, Good Shepherd Medical Center, and Greater Hospice of Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cedar Springs Baptist Church Building Fund. At John's request, no formal visitation for his family is scheduled.

To Kari and Kristi - I and deeply am saddened at the loss of your daddy. I loved him, too, and will always have fond memories of John. I am grateful for having known him and for all of the kindness he, and your mother, blessed me with in my younger years. Especially when I had Niki. Their advice and love made me a stronger and happier person throughout my life. I will always remember and love him for that. God Bless and keep you and your families in this time of great sorrow. I love you both very much.
