Services for Dr. Garland Leon Parks of Longview, will be noon Tuesday, March 24, 2008, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church on Airline Road, with Pastor Ed Johnson officiating. Burial will be noon Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in Tipton Cemetery in Tipton, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. Dr. Parks died Saturday, March 21, 2009.
He was born October 17, 1927, in Tipton, Oklahoma, to Flemmon and Irene Parks. Dr. Parks graduated from Tipton High school in 1945, served in World War II and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1947.
He married Janet Laird in 1950 and farmed in the Tipton area until 1961, when he moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to attend Southwestern State College. He moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma, in 1963 to attend Oklahoma University Medical School, graduating in June of 1967. He served his internship at St. Anthony's Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and practiced in Del City, Oklahoma, for several years. He then moved to Vian, Oklahoma, where he married Ann Butler in 1983, eventually moving to Longview in 1991 and practicing for Good Shepherd Hospital in Jefferson. He retired in 2001.
Dr. Parks is survived by his wife, Ann, of Longview; daughter, Karen Boileau of Enid, Oklahoma; son, Forest Parks and wife, Mary, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; daughter, Connie McCombs of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Theresa Molet of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; stepson, Charles Ray Dyer and wife, Cindy, of Bossier City, Louisiana; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joanne Parks; and a granddaughter.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, March 23, 2009, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Jefferson Christian Academy, 3060 FM 728, Jefferson, TX 75657; or the Macular Degeneration Association.

Dr. Parks was such a blessing to the Jefferson community while he served us here in Jefferson. We missed him after his retirement and now his passing fills us with great sorrow.
