Ben Salmon Obituary
LINDEN — Funeral services for Ben Lloyd Salmon, 83, of Linden, Texas, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at First United Methodist Church of Linden, with the Rev. Kevin Young officiating. Burial will follow in Linden Cemetery under the direction of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home in Linden.
Active pallbearers will be Charles R. Salmon, Charles M. Salmon, Robert Ben Salmon, Mark Mendola, Jack Salmon and Nikolay Vydashenko.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today, May 23, 2011, at Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home in Linden.
Mr. Salmon was born August 4, 1927, in Avinger, Texas, to Robert Young Salmon and Lena Belle (Frazior) Salmon. He passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011, at a hospital in Longview.
He served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from the University of Houston. He worked for 41 years at Stewart & Stevenson. He was a scout leader, Sunday school teacher and president of the Administrative Management Society of Houston. He enjoyed growing pine trees and managing his farm for more than 30 years. His kind and gentle spirit will be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Clara Alice Salmon; daughter, Clara Kathleen Mendola; son, Charles Robert Salmon (Marilou); grandchildren, Mark Mendola (Jennifer), Charles Michael Salmon, Sarah Mendola (Nikolay Vydashenko), Robert Ben Salmon and Kimberly Ann Salmon; great-grandchildren, Ben Mendola and Gus Mendola; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Robert Salmon, Geraldine Baber, Jack "Spike" Salmon, Esther Pippen, James C. Salmon and Thomas A. Salmon.
Memorials may be made to Linden United Methodist Church, MD Anderson Hospital of Houston or Texas Children's Hospital of Houston.
