Albert H. "Al" Northrup, 88, of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2010. He was born on June 27, 1921 in Mt. Vernon, New York. A World War II Army veteran, after his tour of duty, he returned home to Mount Vernon where he became a fireman. He moved to DeLand in 1954 and went to work for Calkins Electric Co. and later became a self-employed blueprint engineer. Al was an active member of the VFW Post #1590 in Daytona Beach where he was the 5th Supreme Commander, member of the American Legion and a member of the Cooties where he was Past Seam Squirrel. He is survived by his daughter, Joanne (Shawn) Sepanek of DeLand; sons, Greg (Teresa) Northrup, Daytona Beach Shores, Don Northrup of Casselberry, Bill (Sue) Walters of Virginia; and brother, George Northrup of Clearwater, FL; along with six grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. His wife and grandson, Betty Jean "B.J", Northrup and Michael Wilson preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 6 at 6:00 P.M at the VFW Post #1590, 1013 Veteran's Court, Daytona Beach, FL 32117 with Chaplain Roger Lee Tiffany officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Lankford Funeral Home in DeLand is in charge of arrangements.
