Dale Odum Obituary

Dale Robert Odum
05/26/1946 - 07/31/2018
Dale was born in West Grove, PA, on May 26, 1946. He was the son of Clyde and Lector Odum. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Diane, and their son, Jamie Dale Odum (Jessica) and his first grandchild, Von Oliver Odum, and sister Shirley Cornett of South Carolina as well as many nieces and nephews. He grew up in Landenberg, PA, and graduated from Kennett High in Kennett Square, PA. Dale served in the Army for 2 years at Fort Riley, Kansas. Dale attended Barber School in Wilmington, DE. He owned and operated several different barber shops in Exton and Paoli, PA. He then owned several bars in PA. First the Paoli Junction Tavern and then the Alley Pub in Frazier, PA. He then sold his business ventures and moved to Flagler Beach, FL in 1985. In Flagler Beach, Dale operated several businesses: Odum's Pizza Pub, Beachside Liquors, Uncle Dale's Discount Liquors, Dockside Marina and Restaurant, and Odum's Barber Shop. He retired in 2011. Dale was well-known in the community as "Uncle Dale." He enjoyed watching his beloved Phillies and the Eagles games, singing karaoke, and having fun with his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, we have set up the Uncle Dale Memorial College Fund to benefit his grandson, Von Odum. My Script for Dale's Servic:

I am going to try to say a few words. Thanks for coming to celebrate Dale's life and to support us and each other.

-Dale was my best friend, and life has never been boring with him. His sense of humor was so funny and made life fun. As you know we never knew what would come out of his mouth because he loved to make people laugh. He was definitely a "People Person". He did so well in businesses because he knew how to please customers. My nickname of Weezy started as a joke because some of Dale's actions reminded me of George Jefferson & I'd call him George and laugh. He started calling me Weezy instead of Diane and never quit. Half of you only know me by that name.

-Dale and Jamie have been very close as father and son. Jamie and Jessica have done whatever has been needed to "be there for us" especially during these last few years as Dale's health declined. They have been at my side and my support all week and will continue to bless me. I am so thankful for them and for Dale's being POPPOP for these 10 months since his "little Buddy" Von was born. Pure joy shined in Dale's eyes whenever he would look at little Von Oliver Odum.

How Dale left us was amazingly merciful for him & me. Since I was gone to PA for my sister's husband's funeral, I was spared being being the first person to find Dale after he died. Also, He was at Johnny D's for his weekly outing last Tuesday and I've been told he looked great and had fun with his many friends. He went home about 7pm and died soon after. Dale did not suffer and it appears that as he sat on the bed, he had a stroke or heart attack and just laid back on his pillow.

God's grace is covering me and giving me peace and strength.PEACE because of many prayers being said and because I know where Dale has gone! Last year when his brother, Wayne was sick and dying, Dale became a Christian. He asked Jesus to come and forgive him for his sins and to be his Savior. As the Bible tells us in John 3:16, "GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY SON, THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE".

I know where Dale's gone and I know I will see him again one day. He and my little Hannah are waiting for me.

My last Uncle has passed away and with it one of the most influential men in my life. Last year it was Uncle Wayne and now him. He was one of seven kids and only my mother remains all passing before the age of 76. Never short with words of wisdom and directness, Uncle Dale is sending me a message. As a man in my late 50's, his passing (and Uncle Wayne's) will once again have me telling myself self, I need to not be so damn serious. I called my Uncle Dale on his birthday every year and now I won't be able to do that and it really saddens me. He leaves behind my favorite Aunt (Diane who is truly a wonderful lady) and my favorite cousin (Jamie) and oh how I feel there pain. Sadly I won't be able to attend his funeral tomorrow but I will make it a point to have a pint of Miller Lite because that was Uncle Dale's favorite beverage. I always used to laugh when he told me why he drank Miller Lite Duck (his nickname for me) I drink Miller Lite because I'm a lite guy. RIP Uncle Dale. I love you more than you'll ever know!!!
