Darrell E. Farley Obituary

Darrell E. Farley, 89, of South Daytona, went to serve the Lord on June 17, 2014. He was born January 27, 1925 in Greenville, Ky and moved to Daytona Beach in 1926. He graduated from Daytona Beach High (Mainland) in 1943. He enlisted in the Army on 18 Jun 1943, and served with the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division, Head Quarters Company in Europe during World War II until 1947 serving in France, Germany and Austria. After returning to Daytona after the war he worked as a mechanic with his father at Farley's Garage on Cottage Lane. When his father retired he opened up a small engine shop near the old Seabreeze Circle. He later worked at Fish Carburetor before changing from automobiles to marine engines at Daytona Outboarder on Ballough Road and Holiday Harbor marina in Port Orange. In 1969 he went to work for HAVAG Industries in Sanford, an electronic firm involved in the space industry. He was cofounder of ALFAR industries with his childhood friend Howard Allen which later became Howard's Bait and Tackle in Port Orange. In 1995 he retired from Hawaiian Tropic where he was the manager in the molding department, then went on to work for Native Tan until 2005. He enjoyed spending time with his family and on the beach surf fishing. He had many hobbies growing up and throughout his adult life. He helped construct the Ormond Model Raceway at the foot of the Granada Bridge in Ormond and City Island in Daytona Beach where they raced tether cars. He loved NASCAR racing and was friends with many of the local garages involved in racing. He was a Life Member of VFW Post 1590 and Life Member of American Legion Post 120. He is preceded in death by the mother of his children Doris V. Kennedy of Muskogee, Oklahoma, his wife Ethel Farley, Mother Myrtle Farley, Father Alex W. Farley and Sister Joyce Smith (Hoke) of Melbourne. He is survived by his Daughter Cheryl Green (Gary) of Niceville, FL, Son Darrell E. Farley Jr. (June) of Ormond Beach, two Granddaughters Stacey Coleman and Amy Green Purvis (Craig), Great Granddaughter Jordon, great grandson Jacob, all of Niceville, FL and Grandsons James Phillips (Kristina) and of Port Orange and Stephen Phillips (Stephanie) of Holly Hill and extended families. There will be a graveside service with military honors at Daytona Memorial Park, 1425 Bellevue Ave, Daytona Beach on 21 Jun 2014 at 11:00 am. Lohman Funeral Home in charge.
