Ernie Waters, 78, died Friday, November 6, at his Ormond Beach, FL home with his family by his side. Ernie was born on January 20, 1937, in Chickamauga, GA to Joseph Ernest and Bertie King Waters. After graduating from Gordon Lee HS in Chickamauga, GA he enlisted in the military. He served 20 years in the military mostly in the US Army (Army Security Agency) with a tour in Korea and Vietnam. He was stationed at a variety of bases in the US and overseas. After he retired, he was the property manager for several Northern VA area apartment complexes. Eventually he moved back to Chickamauga to care for his aging parents and finally landed in Ormond Beach, FL. He enjoyed time at the VFW Post 1590 in Daytona Beach where he was an avid karaoke singer. He was a long-time, dedicated Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves fan regardless of where he lived. He enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles, playing poker at the VFW and watching his children and grand-children play sports and even coached his daughters' flag football team. He is survived by his three daughters: Sandra Duchesne (Jack), Cathy Rieker, Michelle Mackenzie (Scott), six grandsons (Matthew Johnson, Justin and Ryan Rieker, Brett, Brian and Brody Mackenzie), one granddaughter (Chelsey Rieker Ford), four great grandchildren and sister, Evelyn Marie Gawlick. He is pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Charles and Jimmy and sister Barbara Campbell. Burial services will be held at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
