Geneva A. "Sis" Banning Wetzel, 95, of Edgewater, FL, passed away on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Sis was born in Charleston, IL on August 15, 1923. She married Jacob R. "Jake" Wetzel April 18, 1942. Jake was in the Naval Air Corps during World War II and they traveled extensively over the U.S. until the end of the war, before settling in Paris, IL. Sis and Jake lived most of their lives in Paris, IL and Marshall, IL before moving to Beckley, WV in 1964. In 1968 they moved back to Marshall, IL. Sis was a branch manager of Savings and Loan Association in Marshall, IL, retiring in 1982. Sis and Jake then retired to New Smyrna Beach in 1982. Sis lost the love of her life, Jake, on January 20, 1997. She moved to Edgewater four years ago. Sis was a member of the NSB Golf Course and past president of the 18 hole Ladies League. Sis loved golfing, knitting, gardening, crafting and just being with her grandchildren and family. She volunteered at Florida Hospital (BFMC), New Smyrna Beach for over 7 years while knitting over 850 teddy bears for children at the hospital ER. She especially enjoyed watching the children's eyes light up and the big smiles on their faces. Sis is survived by her 3 children, James R. (Neva) Wetzel, Decatur, TX; Ellen (Bruce) Mann, Edgewater and Phil (Debbie) Wetzel, Edgewater. Sis leaves behind 7 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren living in FL, TX, IN, AL, Washington, DC and Cedar Rapids, IA. Funeral service will be 12 Noon Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at the All Faiths Mausoleum in Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater with Kindred Hospice Chaplain Kennedy Jacobs, officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kindred Hospice, 1717 N. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 130, Daytona Beach, FL 32117.
