Jon Boyer Obituary

Jon Frederick Boyer, age 67, died at home in Palm Coast, FL, on January 6, 2009, after an illness. Jon was born in Avondale, PA on October 21, 1941. He went to school in Kennett Square, PA, and was a proud Eagle Scout. Jon earned his BA from Penn State University in 1963, where he met his future wife, Kaye Kittle. Jon and Kaye were married on March 20, 1965. Jon had the honor of serving in the US Navy, sailing the world on board the USS Enterprise as Petty Officer Third Class. After his honorable discharge in 1966, Jon followed in his father's footsteps, working for DuPont his whole career. Based in New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, Jon and Kaye enjoyed sailing, playing golf and traveling. While at DuPont, Jon registered a patent in the photo processing field. After his retirement from DuPont, Jon helped companies become quality assurance certified. He also enjoyed a brief time as a limo driver. In 2002, Jon and Kaye moved to Palm Coast, FL with their cat, Carmel, and boat, Mittens. Jon relished volunteering as a Boating Safety Inspector for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He took great pride in breaking previous records for number of boats inspected. Jon was honored to support the Sunshine Foundation and other charities. It meant a lot to Jon to do a good deed every day. Jon is survived by his wife, Kaye; daughter,Tristan; son-in-law, Andrew; grandchildren, Gethin and Clary; daughter, Kristine; son-in-law, Tobe; and grandson, Finn; as well as by his sister, Lorraine; brother-in-law, Gary; nephew, John Adam; and Aunt Ella. The family is planning small memorial gatherings in Maryland and Florida. The family is grateful to HospiceCare Florida Hospital for their exemplary help and support, making it possible for Jon to die in peace at home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sunshine Foundation or HospiceCare Florida Hospital in Jon's memory.
