Lester Floyd Chapman Obituary
Lester Floyd Chapman
05/11/2018
Les once said he would like his epitaph to read: "I have finished my work and gone home". And what wonderful "work" he has done as a son, father, husband, friend and colleague. Lester died peacefully surrounded by love on May 11, 2018. Born in Marshfield, Wisconsin in 1931, Les was the first of nine children of Helen and LaVon Chapman. He grew up on a rural Wisconsin farm, attended a one-room school house and attended University Of Wisconsin LaCrosse. Les joined the U.S. Army as a paratrooper for the 11th Airborne unit at Fort Campbell, Kentucky until 1953. After discharge he worked at IBM for 35 years in Richmond, Virginia and Boca Raton, Florida, retiring at age 58 in 1989. He attended nursing school, graduating in 1993 as a Registered Nurse. He worked in Oncology in South Florida for five years and for Hospice of Volusia Flagler for ten years, retiring for the last time in 2010 at age 79. Les married Jean Bunker in 1954 and has two children, daughter Leslie (Steve) and son Paul (Kelly) and grandson, Bradley. Les married Judy Stark in 1984 and her two daughters, Susan (Alan) and Beth (Chris) became his children too. Cooper is his newest grandson. A funeral mass will be held June 2nd at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Smyrna Beach. Family and friends are invited to attend this Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Halifax Health Hospice. Condolences may be shared at bladwincremation.com.
