Enrolled as a college freshman and Assistant Swimming Manager at Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge, Kayne was pursuing an Animal Sciences bachelor's degree in the College of Agriculture with aspirations of becoming a DVM (doctor of veterinary medicine). Kayne is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jacalynn Leigh Ransom, and paternal grandfather, Curtis Dean Finley.
