Paul Robert Phillips

Memorial service for Paul Robert Phillips, 87, Holly Hill, who died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at the Dale Woodward Funeral Home, 167 Ridgewood Ave, Holly Hill, with Paul Phillips officiating. Mr. Phillips was born into pioneer families of Florida on November 23, 1918, in Okeechobee in the home of his Uncle Peter and Aunt Louisianna Chandler Raulerson. He was raised in Kenansville, joined the U.S. Navy in 1941, and served five years in Pearl Harbor. After returning from the service, he became an electrician and worked for Olsen Electric for many years as well as Cape Canaveral and several electrical power plants around the country. Upon his retirement, he cared for his mother, Florida historian Alma Hetherington, for many years. He loved to travel, especially to Mexico and Central America, was an avid reader of Florida and enjoyed walking. He was a lifelong Methodist and a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Holly Hill, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, IBEW Local #0756, the DAV Chapter 84, Holly Hill, the VFW Post 1590 and American Legion, Post 120. He was predeceased by his parents, Alma Mae Gibson and Wallace Hampton Phillips, Sr., and brothers, Wallace H. and Carol Gibson Phillips. A lifelong bachelor, he is survived by nieces, Joyce M. Phillips, DeLeon Springs, Mary W. Phillips, Orlando, and Patricia Phillips Smith, Daytona; nephews, James E. Phillips, (Ginny), Ormond Beach, John E. Phillips (Lyne), Stittsville, Ontario, Paul M. Phillips (Kathy), Ormond Beach, and Richard Phillips, Deltona; nine great-nephews; special friend and caregiver, Mae Walls Shackelford, Holly Hill.
