Gene "Paul" Skidmore

Gene "Paul" Skidmore passed away Thursday, April 7th, 2011 peacefully in his home after a short battle with cancer at the age of 75.

Born February 23, 1936 in Lebanon, Missouri Paul graduated from Central High School and Columbia College in Springfield. After high school he became a member of the 82nd Airborne Paratroopers Division. He then married the love of his life, Kay, and they settled down in Springfield to raise their family. Known to most as "Skid", his greatest passions were boating and fishing, spending time at Rice Camp on Tablerock Lake and trying his luck on the slots. Paul had a quiet soul and a loving heart. He was good natured with a great sense of humor and always had a helping hand for anyone in need. Paul was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, the Shriners, as well as the Gate of the Temple Masonic Lodge and retired from City Utilities Gas Department. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife,Kay; his parents, Pat and Esther; a granddaughter, Ashley; and a sister, Patricia.

He is survived by his son,Ricky; his daughter, Brenda; six grandchildren,Courtney, Lindsey, Skylar, Lilyanne, Tiffany and Matt; a great granddaughter, Chloe; two brothers and their wives, Ken and Margaret, Joel and Carolyn; two sisters and their husbands, Karen and Joe, Ruth and Mike; eleven nieces and nephews. Paul also leaves behind very dear lifelong friends Ron and Sarah Henderson and Bob Cruse.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, April 12, 2011 in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel, 1947 E Seminole Springfield, Mo 65804.

The family asks that donations be sent to Hospice Compassus, 1465 E Primrose Springfield, MO. 65804 in heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care and support given to Paul and his family during his illness.
