Gondy Shuler

Springfield - Gondolyn Erma Stamps Shuler, of Springfield was born on September 6, 1929 to Albert Chessley and Jeanetta Allred Stamps in Osage Arkansas and passed away on June 9, 2018. Her childhood was marked by the struggles of the Great Depression. Gondy left home at age 13 to work her way through high school at School of the Ozarks. Following high school she entered nursing school at Springfield Baptist Hospital. She worked as a registered nurse for a few years before taking on being a homemaker and mother as her profession. Gondy was married to her beloved Bill on June 30, 1951. She dedicated her life to caring for their 4 children and later countless other family members. Gondy was gifted in so many ways. She created the most magical holidays for her family year after year. It must have been so much work, but she made it look effortless. She was a talented quilter and made gorgeous family heirlooms that will be treasured for generations. She loved working in her gardens and reading. She was an incredible cook and her family will never forget her amazing hamballs. She was an active member of Southminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years and enjoyed the lifelong friends she made there.

Gondy was preceded in death by her parents along with her 3 siblings Carl, Imogene, and John Stamps. Her husband Bill passed away in 2008. They enjoyed 56 years of a loving, happy marriage. They truly enjoyed each other's company and modelled a marriage built on friendship and grace for their entire family. They particularly loved attending auctions together and travelling. Her family finds comfort in the knowledge that they are together again.

She is survived by her four children: Jo Ellen Simkins, Roger Shuler (Carol), Paul Shuler (Gaye Ann), and David Shuler (Gina) all of Springfield. She has 6 grandchildren: Brian Simkins (Cheryl) of Strafford, Erin Gerhardt (Jeff) of St. Louis, Hannah Shuler, Blake Shuler, Noah Shuler, and Jack Shuler all of Springfield. She found so much joy in her 6 great grandchildren: Mia, Miles and Eleanor Gerhardt, Maddux and Oakleigh Simkins, and Kenley Eskina.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Havens officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Aldrich, MO. Visitation will be from 6PM to 8PM Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in the funeral home.

Gondy's family would like to thank the staff at Lakewood Assisted Living and later Quail Creek for the wonderful care and kindnesses shown to Mom and her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Gondy's beloved College of the Ozarks.
