James Reed Cook Obituary
James Reed Cook

Jim Cook, 85, of Springfield, Missouri went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2013. Jim was born in Crane, Missouri to J. Hugh Thomas and Pearl Coones Cook on December 20, 1927. Jim farmed and worked horses with his family at the mouth of Wheeler on the James River where he met his future wife, Ella Marie Maples, whose family farmed across the river. After graduating from Crane High School, Jim married Marie in 1945, worked on the railroad, served in the Army Air Corp, then settled in Crane working at Hilton's Hardware and later the MFA Hardware. Jim concluded his career as a branch manager providing wholesale heating and air conditioning supplies for his many dealer/friends throughout his Missouri/Arkansas territory.

As a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Crane and long standing deacon and Sunday school teacher, Jim cherished his Crane church family. After retiring and moving to Springfield in 1995, Jim faithfully served as an active member at Ridgecrest Baptist Church volunteering and offering to serve where possible.

Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marie Cook, daughters Pat Allen (Dane) and Pam Collins (Terry) and son Bob Cook (Ginny). Jim has eight grandchildren: Eric Allen, Matt Allen, Jason Collins, Jon Collins, Taylor Collins, Ryan Cook, Jared Cook, and Lindsey Cook Wilkerson, as well as nine great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 1-3 pm Thursday, March 7 at the First Baptist Church of Crane, Missouri with service at 3 pm. Burial will follow in Crane Cemetery under the care of Westrip Funeral Home Crane, Missouri.

The family has requested that any memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or your local church.
