Jennie L. Pierson Obituary
Jennie L. Pierson

Springfield - Guided by the light of her faith, Jennie Pierson moved to her heavenly home on June 11, 2018. She passed after a brief stay at Mercy Hospital, her little old body just giving out at the age of 100.

Born on February 16, 1918 in Salida, Colorado, Jennie was the daughter of Phillip and Julia Linza. As a young child, she struggled to help her family when her father died, leaving her mother a widow at 36 with 8 children. Jennie worked for a while in Salida then moved to Denver. She later moved to Oakland, California, working in a restaurant. She met Frank Pierson and married him on June 1, 1943. When her husband came back from World War II, they moved to a Naval Base near Seattle, Washington. They then moved to Portsmouth, Virginia. Her husband was then transferred to Panama and later Naples, Italy, where they lived for two years. Coming back to the U.S., they lived in Urbana, Illinois, where she went to Cosmetology School. Her husband retired from the Navy and they made their home in Springfield in 1956. She operated her beauty shop in her home for 20 years.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters, and 4 brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Leilani Lane and husband Delbert (Dub); grandson Matt, whom she always called Matthew, her only grandchild that she adored from the day he was born; brother, Pal Linza of Salida, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.

She was strong in her faith and attended St. Agnes until she wasn't able to attend. She was an avid player of bingo and played every night for years. Her failing eyesight limited her playing in the past 5 years.

Because of her Italian heritage, most of our friends called her "Nana." She had a long, wonderful life and was excited that she reached 100. That was her goal.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 from 3:00 - 4:00 PM at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Maple Park Cemetery.

A special thanks to the nurses on the 4th floor of Mercy Hospital who gave special attention to "Miss Jennie," especially Leslie, Meghan, Taylor, and Tyler.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Rescue One, 1927-B E. Bennett St, Springfield, MO 65804.
