Joy Fishel Obituary
Joy Yvonne (Spears) Fishel, 81, of Springfield, Mo., passed away on April 20, 2010 in Cox Medical Center South.She was born on January 16, 1929 in Lebanon, Mo., the daughter of Emis and Lois Spears. She graduated from Lebanon High School and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo. Joy retired as a real estate broker from Fishel Realty in Marshfield, Mo., which she owned and operated with her husband Clyde for 24 years. She also served on the Missouri Board of Realtors. On March 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to Clyde Hampton Fishel, Jr. in the Congregational church in Lebanon Mo. Clyde preceded her in death on February 26, 1979. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Joy was an avid genealogist and had a passion for researching her family history. For years she was a member of the Springfield Genealogy Society. She also was a member of the Springfield Art Group, enjoyed her bridge groups, and many volunteer services.She was a member of Kings Way United Methodist Church. Survivors include her brother, Clark G. Spears, MD (Carolyn), Wharton, Texas; four children, Sharon Haight (Steve Conrad), Joplin, Mo., Craig Fishel (Donna), Springfield, Mo., Evan Fishel (Deana), Marshfield, Mo. and Marla Garland (Dan), Blue Springs, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Amy Wills (Chance), Joplin, Mo., Eric Falkensten (Pam), Ozark, Mo., Ryan Fishel (Shanna), Springfield, Mo., Lyndie Fishel, Springfield, Mo., Travis Fishel (Tami), Marshfield, Mo., Tyler Fishel (Kristina), Marshfield, Mo., Ashley Basinger (Rick), Grain Valley, Mo., and Sgt. Blake Richardson; Fort Bragg, NC.; 12 great-grandchildren; four nieces and nephews and families.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 24, 2010, in Gorman-Scharpf Brentwood Chapel. Burial will follow in the Lebanon cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, April 23rd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to March of Dimes.The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Terence Coulter, MD and his nurse Rose as well as the nursing staff in Cox Medical Center South.
