Therese Marie "Teri" (Mignard) Duffy Obituary
Therese Marie "Teri" (Mignard) Duffy

Springfield - 1964-2019

Teri Duffy of Springfield MO passed away after a sudden illness on Tuesday June 25, 2019 in Mercy Hospital surrounded by her family.

Teri was born in St. Louis Missouri on November 17, 1964, to Daniel and Susan (Christiansen) Mignard. From her father she got a love of learning, respect for nature, and a deep kindness toward her fellow humans. From her mother, she got a sense of adventure and fun. These qualities combined to make her a wonderful companion and friend, a lover of the outdoors, and a great teacher.

Teri was a kind and positive person who delighted in the happiness and success of others. There was often a smile on her face and her laugh was contagious. She loved animals and saw beauty in even the most bedraggled stray creature. Her experiments with food, quite legendary in her younger years, led to her being a fantastic and inventive cook. As a young woman she was something special, she would wear her knife and cowgirl boots to school every day. Teri was raised close to nature. She had no sense of direction but saw getting lost as just part of the adventure. She was creative and fun-loving, kind, considerate and caring.

Teri attended Parkview in Springfield but left in her senior year and graduated from Montgomery County High School. After graduating Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Missouri, Teri entered the Peace Corps as a nutritionist in Guatemala. She then completed a master's degree at the University of Kansas.

Teri married Paul Duffy on October 27, 2001, and they returned to Springfield where they welcomed first Daniel and then Michaela into their family. Teri worked as a teacher for most of her career, teaching at KU and at the University of Hawaii, did corporate training for Bank of America, then taught for University of Phoenix, Western Governors University and Dada ABC online, and most recently was a substitute teacher for Springfield Public Schools.

Wherever and whatever she was teaching, Teri really cared about her students and their success. Her most important students, by far, were her children, Daniel and Michaela. She loved all of the extra time she got with them as a result of homeschooling. She enjoyed learning how their minds worked and marveled at the sudden bursts of insight they achieved. She liked following their interests and helping them learn educational basics while having fun doing things together like cooking and baking, crafts projects, or taking field trips.

Teri is survived by her husband Paul, her children Daniel and Michaela, her mother Susan Mignard and her brother Marc Mignard of California, many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces from both sides of her. She was preceded in death by her infant sister Jacqueline, her father Dan, and her grandparents.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Mercy hospital for their kindness and care in Teri's last days. The funeral mass will be in the Chapel of St. Agnes Cathedral (entrance on the back of the Cathedral) 533 S. Jefferson Ave Springfield, MO Interment will be November 20, 2019 1:00 PM at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery 5201 S Southwood Rd Springfield, MO.
