Dear Susan & Family,

My name is Anthony E. Bruschi. My mother was Mildred Antonia Mitchell Bruschi, and her grandmother was Antonia Carney Thompson Walker. My great-great grandmother married Asa Carney.

I met Tommy about three years ago when my Uncle John Haskin Mitchell introduced us. I was very impressed by Tommy’s knowledge of our family history, and we had a very interesting discussion about William Antonio Ferring (my great-great-great grandfather) and his wife Elizabeth Galbreath. I really enjoyed meeting him and wish we could have spent more time together.

My deepest condolences to you and the Carney family.

I look forward to meeting you the next time I am in Blytheville.

I only knew Mr. Carney for about six years. In that short time I found him to be one of the kindest and soft spoken men I have ever known. I enjoyed the conversations I had with him, mostly about sports and baseball in particular. My deepest sympathy to his entire family and to all of his many, many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him. RIP Dr. Carney.

Bro. Carney, Dr. Carney, Tommy Joe...regardless of what anyone called him, you could for sure call him friend! He and my late husband were childhood friends. He became such an important part of our lives through the years. He has been with me during some of my worst times and happy times as well. I’m eternally grateful for ALL the times. Most of all, thank you Tommy Joe for making us want to be better people, people to serve the Lord. Prayers for your precious Mabelee and your family. You are so loved.

I was pastoring in Springfield, Missouri at the same time when Tommy was at Second Baptist. Apparently, he was the one who was given the vision for 2nd BC to be a mega church. After his arrival at the church, God, sort of, just "exploded" it, often times by having 10-15 folk joining on a regular basis. It was my blessed privilege to serve in the same Baptist Association and identical Kingdom. BLESSINGS to each family member!

I know him as Papa and if he wasn’t talking about Jesus then he was most certainly talking about his family. He was a friend to all, a supporter to all, and he was always kind to all. Within five minutes of talking to him you felt like you’d known him for years. He was patient and intelligent, kind and uplifting, soft spoken and yet somehow commanding. When you heard him preach you knew he looked at Jesus as a friend and an ally. He gave you hope and joy and comfort in knowing that you could be a friend too. He loved his family and his wife unconditionally. Two words sum up who Papa was and will always be to those who knew him: Devoted and fulfilled. Devoted to his family, his friends, and to his Lord. Fulfilled by his love of his family, by his work and his many accomplishments, by his faith and unbreakable love for Jesus, and by his life. A life that for us seems over but for him has truly just begun. We love you, Papa. Thank you for being an example, a friend, and an all around genuinely kind soul.

My heart is terribly saddened by this loss! Dr Tommy has always been and will always be my families favorite preacher, hands down! As I told my kids I always expected him to preach my funeral. I don’t even have words to say what he and Mabelee have meant to me. If I were in better health I would be on my way there now! I could easily bring a bus load of people who love them both, from this, their past hometown. My family are crushed and don’t want this to be the news today. Many tears in Springfield Mo today! Prayers for beautiful Mabelee and children.

One of the sweetest, most Godlymen I know. Pastor Carney was my pastor growing up and was the pastor that led me to Christ. I am now 53 years old and I’ve never had a pastor like him. And I’ve had some great pastors. So sorry for the family for their loss, it’s a big loss for all of us. You all will be in our prayers. Jill Silvey (former member at Second Baptist Spfd, MO)

Mabelee and kids. I'm so sorry to hear of Tommy's passing. Margaret had told me that he wasn't doing well. I've always thought that Tommy was such a great guy and he always had such a good, friendly personality. I don't think that he ever met a stranger and always had a smile on his face. If we can do anything for you please call. I love you and will pray for peace for you all.

My condolences for the family of Dr. Tommy Carney. He was a wonderful man who inspired us all to be better human beings! He always had a word of wisdom and a smile that would light up the room whenever you were around him. I had the honor to meet him many years ago (he was my philosophy teacher in college). RIP Dr. Tommy! May God comfort the family and bring peace to your hearts!
