Springfield - William Thomson (Bill) Dodd, 89, passed to life everlasting on November 3, 2018. Bill was born November 2, 1929, in St. Louis, MO to Wallace and Esther Thomson Dodd.

Bill's love of baseball was a family passion. His father was a St. Louis Browns fan while his mother loved her Cardinals. Bill's first job as a teenager was ushering at the old Sportsman's Park baseball stadium in St. Louis. He was a lifelong fan of both the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals. He also enjoyed bowling and golf.

Bill graduated from Beaumont High School in 1948 and served in the US Army from 1951-1953. He was stationed in Germany which gave him the opportunity to visit many European countries and spend time with relatives in Scotland. One of Bill's greatest honors was being able to participate in the Honor Flight of the Ozarks trip to Washington D.C. in 2015 with his daughter Melissa.

Bill worked as Operations Manager for Nabisco for 36 years. He was located in St. Louis, Burlington & Sioux City, IA, Kansas City, Topeka, KS and Springfield. Following his retirement, he was employed by St. John's Hospital for 17 years. His final job was as a volunteer at the Library Center for 10 years. He has remained close friends with fellow employees from all these careers.

Bill was active for many years in the Downtown Rotary Club, participating in the Rotarians' involvement with the Indoor Sports Club. He was also a member of the Queen City Lions Club and the First and Calvary Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast. He was a member of Campbell United Methodist Church.

Bill married Louellen Ellis in Mulberry Grove, IL in 1954. She passed away in 1979. In 1980 he married Alice Maxey Chapman in Springfield.

Bill is survived by his wife Alice, son Rick Dodd of Springfield, son Dan (Becky) Dodd of Lee's Summit, MO, daughter Melissa Dodd of Liberty, MO, & daughter Anne (David) Christy of Orlando, FL. Services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, Nov. 10, at Campbell United Methodist Church, 1747 E. Republic Rd. under the direction of Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the church from 10-11 am. Bill loved visiting with friends while enjoying donuts and coffee so these will be served in his memory.

A private burial will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

Bill requested that if anyone wished to do so, contributions to an animal rescue organization would be appreciated because of his love for the rescue dogs that have blessed his life.
