William "Bill" Carey Carnes

William (Bill) Carey Carnes was born November 8, 1930. He passed away October 1, 2013, at his home. He was born to Carey Ward and Ina Mae (Hanson) Carnes in Winnsboro, Texas who preceded him in death.He is survived by five brothers: Roy (Sandra) Carnes, Longview, Texas; Leon (Sandra), Longview, Texas; Don (Monyene) Carnes, McGregor, Texas; Ken (Susie) Carnes, Houston, Texas; and Mike (Crystal) Carnes, Gilmer, Texas. His only sister, Ina Wanda Sartin preceded him in death. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charles W Springer and grandson, Kevin Reed. Bill joined the Air Force in 1950 and served four years leaving as a Staff Sergeant. He met Clarice J Springer while serving in Kirksville, MO and they were married on November 26, 1953. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Dianne and Terry Carlstrom children Emily (Jeremy) Shook and Andy (Elizabeth Hasson) Carlstrom daughter Chloe, Springfield, MO; Debra and Matt Billingsley, Topeka, KS: Danna and Randy Reed, Willard and their children Megan (Joe) Stout and their daughter Ashlynn and Wesley Reed, Springfield, MO: Bill and Dana Carnes and their son Brett, Springfield, MO; Jim and Victoria Carnes and their sons Alexander and Christopher, Battlefield, MO. Bill and Clarice moved to Springfield in 1965 and joined 2nd Baptist Church where he was ordained a Deacon in 1967. He was employed by Shelter Insurance Company as an Agent until he retired in 1996. He was a member of Gideons International and a volunteer at Grand Oaks Mission. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m.. Thursday, October 3 at Greenlawn East. Services will be at Greenlawn East on Friday, October 4, at 11:00 a.m. with burial following at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to Gideon International.
