Samuel Chappell Obituary
Samuel Chappell

Our beautiful and beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend, Samuel Logan Chappell, 21, died Sept. 7 of a heroin overdose. Sam was born in Hawaii and lived in many other places including Virginia, Côte d'Ivoire, Honduras, Texas, Ohio and Springfield, MO, where he attended Kickapoo High School. Sam was a sweet, sensitive soul who loved books, music, nature and animals. He played guitar, enjoyed rock climbing, and recently hiked 93 miles of the John Muir Trail in California.

Sam smoked marijuana before moving on to ecstacy and harder drugs in his teen years, all of which are easily obtained in the schools and streets. Despite many attempts to help him, Sam could not free himself from the powerful hold of addiction. Sam was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Robert (Bob) Chappell of Blue Springs, MO. He is survived by his parents, Jim and Nancy Chappell, sister, Maggie Chappell, brother, Jack Chappell, grandparents, Dwight and Jean Williams of Thousand Oaks, California, grandmother, Pat Chappell of Blue Springs, MO, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. We are devastated by the loss of our dear boy and the waste of his tremendous potential, and we pray that he is finally at peace in the hands of a loving God.
