Robert J. Dewey, 91, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2013 at Hope Hospice. He was born in South Hadley, MA, August 20, 1921. He is preceded in death by his great granddaughter Jennifer Fraley. He and his wife lived in South Hadley many years and later moved to Sharon, VT. They have resided in Cape Coral for 26 years.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a successful "workaholic", owning his own business for 50 years. He retired as Chief of Bridge Maintenance engineer for the State of VT.
He was a member of St. Katherine Drexel church, a member of Melha Shriners, Springfield, MA, Mount Holyoke Lodge A.F. &A.M., Scottish Rite, America Legion , Elks Lodge #0902 for 60 years and a social member of Lodge #2596, and a Gold Card member of the Italian American Club.
Bob was a great sportsman, enjoying hunting and deep sea fishing. He was a past Commodore of the Middletown Yacht Club of Middletown, Conn, He was devoted to his boating years, holding a Captain's license, he was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Power Squadron where he taught navigation in both. He also enjoyed traveling in his motor home across the U.S. from Alaska to Nova Scotia in his later years.
Survivors are his devoted wife Janice, of 63 years. Dear daughter Jo Anne Blanchard and children Robert Blanchard and Susanne Fraley. Also, daughter Lynne Bloomquist and children William and Heidi Schmidt, and four great grandchildren.
A service will be held on Tuesday, July 23 at 12:30 at St. Katherine Drexel Church, Cape Coral, followed by a "Celebration of Life" at his home. Burial will be held at a later date at Forestdale Cemetery, Holyoke, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice or St. Katherine church.
