Fort Myers - It is with great sadness that the family of Charles Edward Monahan announces his passing at the age of 78. Charley will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Doreen and his children, Paul Monahan, Erin Caiazza, Kathryn McCormack and Gary Monahan. He will also be remembered by his 7 Grandchildren his brother, James Dresch. Charley was predeceased by his mother, Anne Monahan Dresch.

Charles enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1958 until 1964. He was deployed to Korea in 1959 at the DMZ Zone 1st Calvary Division Military Police.

Charles had a remarkable life and distinguished career. NYPD for 25years from March 1st, 1967 to February 29th, 1991. He started as Patrolman, Mounted Division, started in the Original Anti Crime Unit on Staten Island NY became Detective. Promotions to Sergeant, Lieutenant in 1987 became Squad Commander of the 70 in which he retired from. Charley worked on High Profile cases within the NYPD from Serial Killers to Organize Crime. He received numerous awards during his career such as Police Officer of the Month, Detective Unit for Dedication to Public Service, Community Council in Brooklyn for Outstanding Service to the Community and received The NY Finest Award from the Brooklyn South Detectives just to name a few. He graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va @ the 125th Session and received many certificates during his 10 years of active service & 37 yrs affiliated .

Charley was an original employee for the Boston Red Sox when they came to Ft. Myers Spring Training Area. He worked 25 years until he retired due to grave illness. He received awards such as Employee of the year and monster Service award from the Boston Red Sox.

Charley belonged to the Shiners from 2001 to 2018 he was a 32degree , Knights Templar ,York Rites and Tropical Lodge all from 2001 to 2018.

Charley and Doreen renewed their vows in Ireland on Jan 15th, 1989 in a Cathedral in Dublin. This past Jan. 16th, 2018 in Disney World a gathering for Family and Friends witnessed them to renew their vows for the second time.

"It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow up to be", Charles, "Charley" was a wonderful husband and man. He was well loved and respected by all who knew him.
