John Welles, 17, died Tuesday, July 8th. He was born in Arcadia. He died in Arcadia. Not more of a Southerner could one be. As a member of the 4-H Club, he showed steers at the annual fairs, and was an ardent NASCAR fan. He fished mostly but would hunt as well. He collected knives like his Uncle Robert, but later graduated to guns. Well, I did say Arcadia! Not to worry. (He had completed gun safety class) John played poker (with anyone who could be suckered in) and other card games that his Granddad Mel taught him. John was most proud of the card games he invented himself (he was undefeated at last count). He was boy through and through. He attended Sunshine and Alva Elementary Schools in Lee County. He was a senior at DeSoto High School and was to graduate in the Class of 2004 (but would do anything to get out of school). He loved nature and the outdoors. He finally started listening to Rock n Roll (102.5). He was passionate about music and listened to, tuned in, or burned it daily.
He's a member of the Fort Ogden Methodist Church, but had also attended the Pine Level Methodist Church. He is survived in loving memory by Warren W. (Mac) Welles, Dad, Helen F. Huff, Mom + Big John Bailey of Lehigh Acres, FL; 2 Brothers (Mat & Kyle), 2 Sisters (Lendi & Jessica), Grandma, Pat Strader, Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and many Friends.
