Lois Shakarian Blackburn, 92, went to be with the Lord on March 25, 2002. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA. She was a graduate of H.C. Frick Normal School for teachers and held a BS Degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught at the Industrial Home for Crippled children from 1925-1945. In 1941 she married David B. Shakarian, Founder and President of General Nutrition Corporation, who died in 1984. While in Pittsburgh, she was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She chaired numerous charity events and held several positions at the Mt. Lebanon Women's Club.

In 1986 she married Col. William James, then living in Bal Harbour, Florida. He died in 1991. They were actively involved in the Church by the Sea and Lois was a P.E.O. member.

In 1994 she married a former Pittsburgher, Dick Blackburn. They moved to Bonita Springs in 1997.

She is survived by her husband, Dick, her twin daughters Linda Lucas and husband David, of Ft. Myers, FL and Louise Ukleja and husband Mick, of Long Beach, CA, and five grandchildren: Brian and his wife Lee, Kevin, and Megan Lucas and Mark and Michelle Ukleja.

A memorial service will be conducted at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ft. Myers at 11:00 am. on Saturday, March 30, 2002, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Entombment will be in Ft. Myers Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 29, from 3:00 - 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
