Richard Dearborn DeBoest, age 81, of Alva, Florida, formerly of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully August 8, 2013. Rick was born in Salem, Oregon, on March 31, 1932. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry F. and Katherine D. DeBoest, and his brother, Henry F. DeBoest, Jr.

He graduated from Broadripple High School in Indianapolis in 1950. A member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity, he received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University. He then joined the Air Force, after which he attended the University of Florida School of Law, receiving his law degree in 1960.

Rick moved to Fort Myers in 1960 and joined the law firm of Allen &, Knudsen, (n/k/a DeBoest, Stockman, Decker, Hagan, Cheffer, & Webb-Martin), from which he retired in 2002. A past-president of the Lee County Bar Association, Rick was an accomplished attorney who helped pioneer condominium law in the State of Florida and recorded the first Declaration of Condominium in Lee County in November1963. In addition to his many civic activities, Rick was Assistant Civil Defense Director for Lee County. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and all around outdoorsman. Throughout his life, Rick had a true love of nature and enjoyed all forms of gardening and horticulture. He had a keen sense of adventure and was a world traveler, as well as being artistic, imaginative and inventive.

Rick is survived by his wife, Dianne Crant DeBoest; his children, Patricia K. DeBoest, Lisa K. Meo (David), and Richard D. DeBoest, II (Heather Fitzenhagen); his grandchildren, Alia Alexander, Alexander "Zan" DeBoest, and Olivia DeBoest; his step-children, Dianne Powell, Richmond Powell, Jr. (Carol), Barbara Cheever (Tim), Christopher Powell (Susan), and John Powell, (Linda); and his step-grandchildren, Kathryn Turner (Jake), Caroline Powell, Caitrin Doherty-Powell, Sean Doherty-Powell, Julia Powell, Lea Powell, and John Powell, Jr.
