ASHEBORO — Edward Lucian Bonkemeyer, age 82, of Seagrove, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Randolph Hospital.
A native of Randolph County and graduate of Asheboro High School, Mr. Bonkemeyer was the son of Lucian Arthur and Corda Underwood Bonkemeyer. He worked in the family business, Bonk's Cleaners of Asheboro, and gained a well earned reputation as a master dry cleaner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Bonkemeyer and great granddaughter, Anna Claire Brown.
He is survived by his wife: Ava Bonkemeyer of the home, sons and daughters-in-law, Ed And his wife, Harriette Bonkemeyer of Greensboro, Phil and his wife, Dianne Bonkemeyer of Asheboro, and Rick and his wife, Bonnie Bonkemeyer of Asheboro, granddaughters, Virginia and her husband, Michael Rushing of Cumming, GA, Kathryn and her husband, Daniel Ezzell of Conover, NC, Julie and her husband, Craig Brown of Hendersonville, TN, Meredith and Mallory Bonkemeyer, both of Asheboro, great grandchilren, Tyler and Parker Rushing of Cumming, GA; Eli, Silas, and Chloe Brown of Hendersonvillle, TN, Step Daughter , Grace and her husband, Dennis Singleton of Seagrove, NC, sisters, Loretta Williams of Asheboro, Lois and her husband, Ray Rumbley of Asheboro, Shelba and her husband, Malcolm Laughlin of Asheboro, and brothers, Donald Bonkemeyer of Asheboro and Charles and his wife, Linda Bonkemeyer of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 1 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of Lorretta Williams, 315 Old Liberty Rd., Asheboro, NC 27203. The funeral will follow at 3:00 PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro with Rev. Ron Terry officiating. Burial will follow in Randolph Memorial Park.
