Feb. 1, 1948 - Jan. 22, 2005 On Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, Rick passed away at Inova Fairfax Hospital due to complications from a brain aneurism. Born in OshKosh, Wis., Rick attended the University of Wisconsin before joining the U.S. Navy as an Electronics Technician in 1968. Tours of duty included Japan, Guam, and California before an honorable discharge in 1978. That same year he hired on with the Department of State Foreign Service as a Communications Electronics Officer, serving overseas posts in Kenya, Philippines, and Australia, until his retirement in 1998. Rick was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Elizabeth Plotz; maternal grandparents, Carl and Emma Bauer; and his parents, Clarence and Alice Plotz, all of OshKosh, Wis. Rick is survived by his loving wife of 34 years Betty; son Jeffrey; daughter Richelle; and his grandson Jacob, all of Dale City; brother David Plotz of Fairfield, Iowa; sister Marcia Beebe (Robert) of Dale, Wis.; two nieces, Kristin Beebe (Kevin Collum) of Madison, Wis. And Emma Plotz of Chicago, Ill.; nephew Zacchari Beebe (Tianna) of Dale, Wis.; uncle Arthur Bauer (Penny) of Portland, Ore.; and an aunt Carolyn Henslin (Allen) of OshKosh, Wis. Per Ricks request and that of his family, he was a successful organ donor for the Washington Regional Transplant Consortium. Any consideration to this organization by friends and family would be greatly appreciated. Ricks generous spirit will live on in his precious gifts to others. Family and friends will be received at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge on Wednesday, Jan. 26, from 6 to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held in OshKosh, Wis., at a time and location to be announced at a later date. I was lucky enough to have worked with Rick in Australia, Washington and Lisbon. I'll always remember and appreciate his great sense of humor and work ethic. My deepest sympathy to the family.
