CURRAN - Rita Rothmann, a long time Oyster Bay resident, died January 23, 2009 in Westfield, N.J. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Gertrude Rothmann, former owners of Rothmanns Inn, East Norwich, N.Y. An accomplished pianist, Mrs. Curran graduated from St. Dominic's High School as salutatorian and received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Julliard School of Music in Manhattan. A public school music teacher, Mrs. Curran did graduate work towards her Masters Degree at the Columbia University Teachers College. Mrs. Curran was married to former New York State Senator Henry M. Curran, high school sweethearts they were married for over 50 years. During her husbands political career, Mrs. Curran entertained many political leaders including former vice president and New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller. Mrs. Curran volunteered her time and talent to many organizations including St. Dominic's and Oyster Bay High School. Mrs. Curran was a member of the St. Dominic's Immaculate Heart Of Mary Guild, St. Dominic's choir organist, the Glen Cove Hospital Auxiliary, the Holy Trinity (NJ) senior and rosary club, and Westfield, N.J. Music Club. Predeceased by her beloved husband Henry M. Curran and her sister, Gloria O'Rourke. Mrs. Curran is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Lecia and James DeHaven of Westfield, N.J. and her three sons, Henry of Gulfport, FL, Paul and wife Linda of Winchester, TN, Peter and wife Beth of Nashua, NH. In addition to her children, Mrs. Curran is survived by her sister Paula Colton Woods of Stratford, CT along with six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive Mrs. Curran. Family will receive friends Monday 2-4, and 7-9pm at the Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, Inc. 293 South Street, Oyster Bay. Funeral Mass Tuesday 9:30am St Dominic's R.C. Chapel, Oyster Bay.
