I was so sorry to learn of the passing of Tom Gulotta. He served the people of Nassau County in so many ways: as a NYS Assemblyman, Presiding Supervisor, and County Executive. I had graduated from with a B.S. from Hofstra in 1975, and my M.A. in 1983. I remember when he had been elected as our County Executive. I'm sure I met him on a few occasions in my hometown of Mineola. I always thought he did a great job and showed interest in the people of communities he served. He was also a true gentleman in every way- we will miss his friendliness and concern that he showed for residents in this area. R.I.P.Tom.

Maybe one way to notice someone destined for office, is that they wear suits
in high school. i can not at this moment tell you that Tommy actually wore suits,
but i remember him that way. AND he is incredibly nice to people, which means
high school kids, which means that's hard work. He was ALWAYS so nice to
me, and for some reason laughed (hard) at my jokes. I would like to believe
that he wasn't a Trump supporter, but what I do know is that it's sad to see a
guy who is eternally 16 years old, die.

To the family of Tom Gulotta:
I got to know Tom Gulotta during the 1980s and 1990s when he was County Executive of Nassau County. At that time, I was writing dozens of articles about the high incidence of breast cancer on Long Island for both The Women's Record and The New York Times.
Long before other politicians woke up to the seriousness of this epidemic, Tom was responsive from Day One. He was the first elected official in the country to institute free mammographic screenings (in a roving van) for every woman in the countyan initiative which no doubt saved untold numbers of lives.
He was also a gentlemana term that is now anachronistic and a quality that is sorely missed.
Please accept my sincere condolences on the death of this extraordinary man.
Sincerely yours,
Joan Swirsky

Tom and Betsy have done so much to make this world a better place, for the environment, for the poor, for future generations. Many of these works were chronicled in Merrick Life and its sister publications.

As a Democrat, I had occassion to work with former County Executive Gulotta, while I worked for the NY State Assembly, from 1992 through 1996. He was so funny, likeable and yes easy on the eyes. I pranked him at an event we both attended at the African American Museum once. I called his name as I was presenting a poetry piece. The look on his face of oh boy, what is she going to say, was so funny. Of course I did it for that effect. I truly liked him as he was so personable. May God continue to bless and keep this family. If I could have, I would have come to celebrate his life with you.

We are very saddened to hear about the death of Mr. Gulotta. I met him years ago & when there was a parade we had many car bumpers stickers with his name calling Mr. Gulotta. Mr. Gulotta bowed his head with a smile & said thank you. He was a great person & the best County Executive ever. You will be missed. R.I.P. my friend.

Tom and I met in the mid-70s when he decided to run for a seat on the upcoming County Legislature. He won but the county legislature proposal was defeated. In essence, he won nothing. But he went on the next year to win a seat in the State Legislature. Those were the days. My assignment was to prepare a press release a week for the papers. Joined his staff when he became Hempstead Town Supervisor, then Nassau County Executive. He rarely took a day off plus all the night stops. If there was a birthday party expect Tom to stop by. It was hard to keep up with him . I retired in 1995. One of our many funny stories. Driving him up to Albany one night I asked if we made a wrong turn somewhere. With a straight face and calm voice he said: "Not unless they moved that town we just passed to the other side of the Thruway." While others would really get upset, Tom just laughed and laughed at my attempt to head north again. REST IN PEACE TOM.

I have many fond memories of Tom and his family through my employment at NUMC during his time as County Executive. Worked with him to substantially increase pay for nursing staff at the Hospital and A Holly Patterson Home. His heart and soul was being a good politician for the people he served. I offer my condolences to his wife Betsy and the entire Gulotta Family. May he R.I.P.
