Dawn M. Thompson

Staunton - Dawn (Moran) Thompson, 83, of Plaza Apartment Drive, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 in the Kings Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Augusta County on October 13, 1934 a daughter of the late Lloyd Edward and Mona Blanche (Stover) Moran.

Dawn was a loving mother and grandmother who devoted her life to serving her family and her Lord. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Sunshine Group. Mrs. Thompson retired at the age of 80 from Walmart as a cashier clerk, where she enjoyed working with the public, and developing many long lasting relationships with her customers.

Mrs. Thompson was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Paul Moran; and two sisters, Anna Moskalski and Naomi Kidd.

Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Peggy Sue Long-Simmons and her husband Chris; two grandchildren, Michael Sheets and Regina Thorn; a great-granddaughter, Izabella Marshall; two close and special nieces, Ranelle Garber and Patsy Dembroder and numerous other nieces and nephews survive.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, 1025 Hundley Distillery Road, Churchville, Virginia 24421 and one hour prior to the service at the church.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 5, 2018 in the St. Paul's United Methodist Church by the Rev. Norman Ramsey.

Burial will follow in Thornrose Cemetery.

One of Dawn's favorite activities was shopping for "Toys for Tots", so in lieu of flowers, her family requests that anyone wishing to honor her, do so by continuing her tradition of providing toys for children this Christmas.

Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 230 Frontier Drive, Staunton, is in charge of her arrangements.
