Charles Edward Muhlethaler, 47, passed away suddenly on April 29, 2013, of a brain aneurysm.
Charles was born March 1, 1966, in Belle Fourche, S.D. He spent the first five years of his life in Billings, Mont., before his family moved to Fairbanks. He attended the old University Park Grade School, Ryan Junior High School and West Valley High School. He also spent a year in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
He soon decided his passion for the great Alaska outdoors, camping, target practice and fishing was more fun than books so he started working in his dad's business, Paragon Plumbing, learning the plumbing trade.
Charles was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert Muhlethaler and Eleanor Howard; maternal grandparents, Ed and Hazel Portwine; father, Richard Roger Muhlethaler; great aunt and uncle, Charley and Margaret Aldrich; uncle, Bobby Muhlethaler; uncle Andrew Portwine; sister, Jennifer Lynn Cortez; cousin, Danny Boy Portwine; and the love his life, Rebekah Lawson.
He is survived by his son, Conan Jay Muhlethaler Storm, of Fresno, Calif.; mother and step-father, Mary Ann and Ramon (B.Jay) Cortez; four brothers, Joe Aldrich, of Boise, Idaho; Blane (Margaret Failla) Muhlethaler, Ramon R.Jay (Natalie) Cortez and Travis (Stacey) Cortez, all of Fairbanks; three sisters, Natalie (Lionel) Sotelo, Kara (Anthony-Moe) Moore, and Michelle (Andre) Kovalsky, all of Fairbanks. Also surviving are his uncle, Danny (Joann) Portwine, of Fairbanks, aunt Linda (Steven) Elwouger, of Gillette, Wyo.; and aunt Debbie (Duane) Talcott, of Hammond, Mont.; plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Church, 115 N. Cushman St., in Fairbanks. A celebration of life and potluck will be at 1 p.m. at Bernice Allridge Park, 2550 Wilson St., between 24th Avenue and 26th Avenue.
All of Charles' friends were his "buddies" so all his "buddies" will be honorary pallbearers.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fairbanks Funeral Home.

I went to school with Charles from 1st grade through high school. I hadn't seen him in a number of years but am very saddened to read of his passing. He was a really good guy who got along with everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with Blaine and the rest of the family. RIP Charles.
