Marilyn Kay Askelin Obituary
Marilyn passed away Jan. 9, 2018, at the Anchorage Airport. Marilyn is survived by her husband, Robert Askelin, of Fairbanks; and her sisters, Gloria (Steve) Englehart, Beverly Edwards and Patti Edwards of Atlanta, Michigan. Marilyn and her husband, Robert, were entering the Anchorage Airport when she was suddenly and unexpectedly called to her Lord.
Marilyn was born in Grayling, Michigan, in 1950. After graduation, she attended Olivet College in Michigan for two years. Marilyn joined the U.S. Army in 1979. The Army sent her on adventures in Germany and then Alaska. After leaving the Army in 1983, she decided to remain in Alaska. Robert was not her first husband. She met her final love, Robert, in 1988. They finally wed in 2002, but had been together almost 30 years before her passing.
Marilyn was never happier than when she was doing art. She first started playing in art with the Watercolor Society, then Zentangle and finally her greatest passion, the Book Arts. Marilyn was the happiest when she was with her Northwoods Book Arts Guild friends. Marilyn liked talking to people, but she was also a very private person. Her memorial will be a family affair in the summer when her ashes can be spread where she had wished. In lieu of flowers and cards, please support the Literacy Council and the Northwoods Book Arts Guild. She would be pleased by that.
