Yvonne L. Betters

1939 - 2014

Yvonne L. Betters, 75, of Salcha, died July 19, 2014, in Post Falls, Idaho, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Yvonne was born Jan. 12, 1939, in Mankato, Kansas, to the late Albert and Eunice Hunsinger. She graduated valedictorian and magna cum laude from her high school and junior college educational experiences. She married the love of her life, John Betters, on June 20, 1958, in Miltonvale, Kansas. Yvonne was a housewife who devoted her life to church mission work. She was the principal at Far North Christian School and also a teacher. Yvonne was instrumental in the founding of Far North Missionary Fellowship. She worked tirelessly as a pastor's wife and as a missionary to our Native friends of the Far North. She was a loving mother, a devoted grandmother and great-grandma.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Betters, of Salcha; daughter, Rebecca,  of Salcha; grandchildren, Austen Traylor, Christian Traylor and Rhiannon Yvonne Taylor, all of North Pole; great-grandchildren, Josiah Witcher and Euric Traylor, both of North Pole; sister, Eleanor Hunsinger, of Brookville, Florida; brother, Dennis Hunsinger, of Rainer, Washington; sister, Marian Graham, of Brno, Cezch Republic; sister-in-law, Ruthie Betters, of Clyde, Kansas; numerous cousins from the state of Kansas and a host of extended family and friends from near and far.
In addition to her parents, Yvonne was preceded in death by her grandparents and beloved father and mother-in-law.
A visitation will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, July 28, at Fairbanks Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at North Pole Missionary Chapel, ½ mile Dawson Road in North Pole, with Rev. Dwane Newton and Rev. Tim Calhoun officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Salcha Cemetery.
