Our beloved TaKory Lyn Stern, 31, set himself free on July 31, 2014.
Kory was born April 19, 1983, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital to Victor and Jakki Stern. He attended local schools and later received his G.E.D. He was a published author, having had three poems published.
As a child, he played Little League baseball, basketball and was a Boy Scout. He was a member of the Young Marines and took great pride marching with them in the Golden Days Parade.
Kory was a beloved son, brother, father, grandson and cousin in a very large close family. He was a fun-loving, boisterous character and prankster with his cousins. They never thought of him as a "cousin" - he is their brother. Kory was especially close to his cousin, April, because they shared the same birthday and she never let him forget she was 12 hours older. He was especially proud of his son, Elijah, and loved him as only a father can. They shared their love of Tae-kwan-do and making music.
His mother said, "He was a good son and a very protective big brother to his sister Vanessa. We love him dearly and his smile, hugs and kisses will never be forgotten and will always be missed."
Kory was greeted in heaven by his grandfather, Maurice Stern; uncle, Jesse Sipho; aunts, Jackie Stern-Robinson and Rashonda Stern, and his best friend, Eric Pendergrass.
Kory's passing has left a great hole in the hearts of his mother, Jakki Stern; father, Victor Stern; son, Elijah Stern; sister, Vanessa Stern; brother, Christopher Runnion; the mother of his son, Galina Carlson; grandmothers, Alice Stern and Marti Sumner; grandfather, John Sturgeon; aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.
Kory dearly loved his family and was loved in return. Kory left us with many sweet memories to cherish.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, August 7, at Chapel of Chimes, 415 Illinois St. Arrangements were entrusted to Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home.
