Robert Fox Obituary

Robert Page Fox, a good man, died Jan. 15, 2021. He was born Aug. 14, 1945, in Oklahoma City to John and Mary Fox. In 1949, Robert, with his family, drove up the Alaska Highway in an old Studebaker, first settling on Annette Island before moving to Anchorage.
In 1964, Robert volunteered for the Navy and served in Vietnam. After his discharge he moved to Fairbanks, where he attended the University of Alaska while driving a tourist bus for Greyhound. For several years he worked at the Gilmore Tracking Station. During the pipeline era he worked as a Teamster in the pipe yard. In 1977, Robert transitioned into the real estate business.
During Robert's career as a Realtor, he succeeded in getting Home Depot and Pace (now Costco) to build stores in Fairbanks and AIH to move into the former Pay 'n Pak location. Through the years, Robert's expertise in commercial real estate helped develop Fairbanks. His real passion, however, was raw land, whether in the Interior, down on the Kenai or an island in Southeast.
Robert was not just a Realtor. He was an Alaska Renaissance man. When he was not selling real estate, he was actively and passionately engaged in the following activities: archery, big game guiding, jewelry making, boat building, knife making, beekeeping, house building, apple and cherry tree growing, gardening, bread baking, furniture making, world class fishing, salmon smoking, bridge playing, photography, cribbage playing and fly tier. Robert was always happy to share his expertise with any of the above activities.
Three decades ago, Robert started growing apple trees. He started some varieties from seed and grafted others. These trees are now scattered throughout Fairbanks and will be blooming in the spring.
In 1974, Robert married Karen and began building the first family home. During their marriage, Robert built his family six homes. Robert built his final home last year while battling cancer. All but one are in the downtown area, and they are all recognizable by their distinctive cedar siding.
Robert is survived by Karen, his wife of 46 years; his son, Robert; daughter, Mary, and grandson, Horus. Other survivors include his Texas family: Richard and Brenda Fox; Rhett and Kimberly Stokes and children Cooper, Sutton and Gunner; Chris and Kendra Lawson and children Zac and Ella; Brian and Melanie Fox and children Teagan, Annslee and Graham; Allison and Jason Considine and daughter Sadie; and his brother Mike and family of Anchorage. He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, MaryDee Fox; and nephew Dean Fox as well as his brother-in-law, Frank Kovac.
Robert was well loved by his family and friends. There aren't enough words to express the loss of our husband, father and friend. A celebration of Robert's life will follow at a better time.

Robert was a wonderful friend and colleague in real estate. He was always honest and trustworthy and treated others with respect if they shared these attributes. I am so sorry for Karen and family; and, the most recent parakeet. I wish for your peace during this difficult time. Robert was the best.

Dear Karen, I was so sorry to read about the loss of Robert. When we saw him at the Warwick's he looked like he was in good health. It's just like him to provide for you by building a new house. He was a man of great kindness and integrity who did so much for Fairbanks. I join many, many people in offering my sympathies at your loss.

I knew Bob since High School in Anchorage, I liked him from the first day we met . We were fortunate to meet again at the U of A Fairbanks, after he got out of the Navy. We met again a few months ago on a flight to Seattle and we talked about our lives in Alaska, we discovered we both had lived on Annette Island, (he was there just prior to me,1957-59.)That flight seemed to take a few minutes. I will miss Bob, and I’m so sorry for your loss. Bill Tilton , North Pole Alaska

Robert was so nice and decent a man. My day was nicer whenever I ran into him in the Lavery Building. For that, as well as his contributions to making Fairbanks a better place by his real estate work and beautiful houses, I sure appreciated him and shall miss him.

Robert was introduced in my life when I was young as a family friend & he became my good friend. I always felt he was the older brother I never got to have. His brilliant eyes would always light up as we would share fishing stories & compare/trade our smoked salmon goods. I lived on 5th for about 9 years & I used to see Robert & Karen riding bikes down the street just enjoying life- smiling, and always so in love. I was blessed to see Robert briefly this summer, where he let us pick apples to make sauce! Much love to his family. What a wonderful impact he made on so many!

Karen and family, my deepest condolences with the passing of your wonderful husband and father, Robert. He was a life force who filled the room with his infectious smile and colorful lively conversation. Over the last couple of years I would enjoy a cup of coffee with him and several other Fairbanks coffee lovers down on 2nd Avenue. Always, an enjoyable, lively and diverse conversation. Plus, the good memories of young children in all of our families when you lived off Nottingham near the Steiner family. Best Regards, Mike Mathers

Karen and Family, I was sad to hear about Robert's passing. I did a lot of business with Robert over the years. I always found dealings with Robert to be fair and straight forward. Not everyone could take his direct nature, but I found it refreshing. I will miss Robert and his smoked salmon!

I am sorry for your loss. I first met Robert in 1997, and he helped me buy and sell a few properties over the years. And although our paths didn't cross frequently, whenever I ran into him, he always had a smile on his face, and always had time to spend a few minutes conversing. And while he didn't always remember my name, he ALWAYS remembered the properties that he helped me with:) My mother also passed away the same day Robert did, and I hope she gets to meet him up there. God bless

Interactions with Robert were those of being around a seasoned man. He carried the picture of the verse “Be as harmless as doves but wise as serpents”. He was nobodies fool but I observed his kind lending of knowledge to those in earnest to learn something from his vast and varied accumulation of experiences, my son included. I was encouraged by his faith in Christ. God’s peace and presence to Robert’s wife and family. That’s my prayer.

Allan and I were so sorry to hear of Robert's passing. He sold us the "best house ever"....his house! Robert was always interested in the additions and renovations that we made to the property. We will miss seeing him walking around the neighborhood and the occasional visits to the little white house at 500 Lincoln St.
