Harold Hagopian Obituary

Harold A. Hagopian
Raleigh
Harold A. Hagopian, 87, passed away on April 25, 2012 in the comfort of his home. Born on June 14, 1924 in Providence, Rhode Island; he was the son of the late Harry Hagopian and Arpine Terzian.
He joined the US Army Air Corp on March 9, 1943 and upon completion of gunnery school, he was assigned to the B-24 Liberator Group for combat training in California. He completed 30 missions with the 392nd BG, including numerous missions during "D" Day. He was awarded the Air Medal with silver and Oak Leaf Cluster and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a flight communication instructor. He was a member of the Reserves until 1952.
Harold graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a BSEE followed by graduate work in Theoretical Physics and Guided Missile Instrumentation. He joined IBM in 1952 and served in various management assignments until retirement in 1992 as a Telecommunication Consultant.
In recognition of his pioneering efforts in the early development of video conferencing as a viable industry, Harold was inducted into the Teleconferencing Hall of Fame. He contributed significantly to the development, acceptance and application of video conferencing.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Elizabeth Jarvie Hagopian; sons: Gregory (Elizabeth) Hagopian, of Wilmington, NC, Creighton (Sandra) Hagopian, of Chapel Hill, NC, and Richard (Annette) Hagopian, of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Katherine (Christopher) Berry, Stephanie (James) Colangelo and Audrey and Emily Hagopian, and Victoria, Bethany and Matthew Hagopian; great-granddaughter, Sophia Berry; and sisters, Madeline Leonardo and Rose Plude, both of Rhode Island.
Harold was preceded in death by a brother, George Hagopian.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 7 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home (7209 Glenwood Avenue). A Vigil Service will be held at 8 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment, with Military Honors, will be held on Monday, April 30, 2012 at 1 PM at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project - P.O. Box 758517 - Topeka, Kansas 66675.
