William T. Lynch Jr.

William T. Lynch Jr.
February 19, 1960 - July 22, 2013
William T. (Bill) Lynch Jr., age 53 of W. Jones St., died Monday, July 22, at Rex Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer, and a longer battle with schizophrenia.
Bill was an artist whose expressionist oil paintings were shown in Raleigh, New York and California. He was well known in the Boylan Heights and Glenwood South neighborhoods where he wore a beret and took long walks with his dog, Violet.
He was born in New Mexico and lived in Summit, NJ, New York City and Mill Valley, CA, before moving to Raleigh 15 years ago. He graduated from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. In New York, he visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art almost daily, and worked as a house painter while developing his unique style of art, painting vigorously with loose brush strokes on raw wood. In recent years, he intently studied the history of religions and revelations, as reflected in his many block prints, which he gave to friends, neighbors and loved ones. His work will be shown in September at 311 West Martin St. Gallery in Raleigh.
For the last 10 years, he did landscaping for and was embraced by CASA, a Raleigh nonprofit that provides housing for people with disabilities and other needs. He built many friendships through his work there.
He is predeceased by his beloved long-term partner Sherry Johnson, who died in 2003. Surviving are his parents, William T. Sr. and Gerry Lynch of Apex ([email protected]); two brothers, Peter Lynch and his wife Madeleine Hatz of Sweden, and Tony Lynch and his wife Johanna of Apex; one sister, Maureen Cecchino and her husband Bobby of Los Angeles; and a niece and a nephew. He is mourned by many more, including Donald Martiny and Celia Johnson Martiny of Chapel Hill, and many loving uncles, aunts and cousins.
A requiem Mass will be held on Monday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Church in Apex (www.saintandrew.org). After Mass Bill's friends are invited to Fellowship Hall at St. Andrew. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to CASA, P.O. Box 12545, Raleigh, 27605.
