James Adrian Pippin, Jr.

Rockingham

James Adrian Pippin, Jr. passed away on November 22, 2017. He was born in Rockingham, NC on August 6, 1954, the son of the late James Adrian Pippin, Sr. and Juanita Rorie Pippin. Jim graduated from Rockingham High School in 1972. He earned a B.A. in education from Appalachian State University 1976. He later earned masters of education from Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia. Jim was a junior high – middle school social studies teacher in the Muscogee County school district for over twenty years before returning to Rockingham to complete his teaching career at Rockingham Middle School. Jim was honored as the Teacher of the Year in Muscogee County and Richmond County. He was a Teacher in Space Candidate and trained with NASA. He was a part of the Exchange Teacher Program teaching in New Zealand, Japan and Scotland.

Jim also had another career as a staff member and later on as the camp director at Four H Camps Anita Altra, Betsy Jeff Penn and Millstone. This career spanned many years and Jim continued in volunteer capacity until his death.

Jim began his love of camping and camp life in his youth as a Boy Scout, where he earned the Eagle Scout Award.

Jim was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham. He was a member of the Richmond County Historical Society. Jim was on the board of directors for the Rankin Museum in Ellerbe, NC and also on the board of directors for the Ellis - House Museum, the Four H museum at Camp Millstone.

Jim believed that we should value the past, make wise use of today and be inspired to reach for the stars tomorrow.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the NC Agricultural Foundation c/o Millstone- Ellis House Museum, Campus Box 7645, Raleigh, NC 27695 of The First Presbyterian Church, 904 Fayetteville Road, Rockingham, NC 28379 or Rankin Museum, 131 Church Street Ellerbe, NC 28338.

Jim is survived by his maternal aunts, Rowena R. Tarlton of Wadesboro, NC and Mary R. Daniels of Clinton, SC and cousins.

A memorial service to honor Jim will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Rockingham at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2017. Visitation will be before the service from 2:00 until 3:00 PM. The service will be conducted by Rev. Dwight Williams with the addition of Rev. Rufus McLean and Dr. James Clark, Jr.
