Raleigh

Alfred Dewane "Jack" Cooke, 100 years young, of Raleigh, passed away Monday evening, July 9, 2018, peacefully at home. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born May 9, 1918, in Holly Springs, Jack was the son of Sidney Alexander and Magna Holloway Cooke. Jack rejoins his wife, Betsy Chandler Cooke, brother, Sidney A. Cooke Jr., and sisters, Mozelle Pond, Grace Godwin, and Ruby Wrenn Surles.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Danny Weaver, grandson Burke Shuford, granddaughter Dana Claire Weaver and her fiancée Kyle Baseley, and his many loving nieces and nephews.

Jack's zest for life and magnetic personality were truly one of a kind. His kindness and loyalty were unmatched. He could light up any room with one of his famous jokes, even if told many times before. His smile, laugh, and stories could brighten anyone's day. Jack's daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. His gentle spirit and love will live on through them forever.

In keeping with the family's wishes, Jack's 100th Birthday Celebration on May 9th of this year will be remembered as a celebration of his extraordinary life. He visited with many friends and family who joined with love to celebrate his wonderful 100 years. The family thanks each and every one of you for being a part of his special day. This will be our remembrance.

Many thanks to Britt Paynter and Wake Funeral and Cremation Services for their kindness, care, and concern.
