Dana Fracis Evelyn/Dana May (Harri) Latch

August 29, 1943 - May 31, 2015


Dana Francis Evelyn/Dana May (Harri) Latch passed away on Sunday, May 31st following a period of failing health. She was born in New York City on August 29, 1943 to Carl and Miriam (Treuhaft) Harri. Dana grew up in Huntington Station, New York where she graduated Walt Whitman High School. She distinguished herself as a musician (she played the flute) as well as a budding mathematician.

Her secondary education began with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Mathematics from Harpur College, State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton in 1965 and went on to earn her Masters in Mathematics at Queens College in New York in 1967 and in 1971 her Doctorate in Mathematics at CUNY Graduate School.

She taught at many colleges and Universities and from 1989 to 1994 maintained an academic position as Associate Professor of Mathematics at North Carolina State University. "She was a prolific writer who published articles in refereed journals and technical reports."

She was a woman with many extraordinary talents, being an incredible cook, an accomplished potter and a knitter of beautiful garments, as well. She will be missed.

Dana is survived by her daughter, Darell Troxel, husband, Shawn and grandson, Rogan. Her brother, Fredric Harri and sister-in-law, Ann, and sister Suzanne Kennedy and husband, Jeffry. Many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
