Jacqueline Hermans
August 7, 1937 - May 31, 2021
Durham, North Carolina - Jackie, nee Jacoba Wilhelmina Vriezen, died on May 31 at her daughter's home. Born to Theo C. and Wilhelmina Vriezen in Den Haag, Netherlands, she grew up in a large family, and remained close to her 11 siblings. She studied sociology in Utrecht, earned her BS in Nursing from UNC Chapel Hill in 1974, and served at NC Memorial Hospital for 32 years. A loving mother, she stayed as close as possible to her children. She loved folk dancing and was active in the De Wieken Dutch club in Raleigh. A true and caring friend, she was a kind and gentle person. She is survived by her children Janneke Ratcliffe (Johnny) and Friso Hermans (Anne); her siblings Ineke Bijleveld-Vriezen, and Annie, Theo (Anna), Han (Adrienne), Friede, and Karel Vriezen (Tootje); and her grandchildren Jack (Lily), Peter (Thaisa) and Hana Ratcliffe, and Caroline and Alvin Hermans. I am a neighbor of Jackie's from the 300 block of Dacian. I'll miss seeing her taking her neighbor walks. It was such a pleasure to chat with her on the street. May her memory live in all of us.

When I first met Jaque, in 1994, little did I know, that the lady, with the O.R. nurse style tool belt, will become one of my BEST friends of my life. She has been a "jewel" in my life...I will miss her deeply. I thank God for her in my life.

On behalf of all of Jackie's friends at De Wieken I want to express our sincere condolences to Jackie's family and loved ones. For many years Jackie has been one of our most active members. Rarely did she miss one of our gatherings and she could always be counted on to help at the International Festival. We will miss her dearly.
