In her later years, she attended North Carolina Central University, Durham NC, in pursuit of a degree in art.

She is survived by her beloved family; Sara Bright Gilbert (Johnny), Mary Lou Bright Clark (Tracey) and Martha Bright Kearney; grandchildren Garry Andrew Bright (Kyrie), Tate Clark, Abigail Clark, and Allison Gilbert; great-grandchildren Jessie West and Kaiya Bright.

The family thanks all who assisted her during those years, especially the doctors and caregivers of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center of the UNC-CH, and in her last days, Transitions Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 17th, 2018, 11:00 am Church of Reconciliation, Chapel Hill, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of Reconciliation, 110 N. Elliott Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
