I have just learned with sadness the departure of a great man both in his academic career and achievements and in his friendship....My first encounter with him when I learned that both of were winner of the Kuwaiti Prize from Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science...I was more thrilled to be his co-winner than being awarded the prize. He was a giant in the industrial engineering and operations research community. He was full of life and has never let any occasion or discussion without adding a related joke...I have enjoyed my meetings and discussions with him.
I have lost a role model.

A bright and inspirational star has passed from our view, and we are all saddened by our loss. But we are lifted up by the memory of his impact.
As his student and (much) later his colleague, I came to appreciate just how important was his commitment to balancing a deep understanding of the world with a mastery of mathematics to apply to that understanding. His passion and unending pursuit of both remain an inspiration for all who follow.

My heart and prayers are with you during this tough time. Salah Elmaghraby will remain in our heats and in our memories as not only the great scholar but the outstanding human being he was. I feel as if a part of me has gone.
I and many others have learnt a lot from his immense knowledge, his kindness, his humor, his perseverance and above all his care.
I will cherish the memory of my great professor, my mentor , my outstanding colleague and above all my older and true friend for life.
I will miss you and love you as long as I breathe.

Dear Wedad and family. I was so saddened to learn of the death of your father. I hope you find comfort in knowing that he made a lasting impact on the field of IEOR, as a scholar, teacher, mentor, and as an all around amazing person. His integrity, kindness, graciousness, and humor touched everyone he met. His legacy will live on in all the students and colleagues who were luck enough to know him.

Dear Amina and family,
Margie and I were very saddened to learn about Salah. We treasure memories of our friendship, especially the activities of our culinary adventures. Salah certainly was one of a kind.
Two years ago we sold our house and moved into a 3 tier retirement community in Harrisonburg, VA (near Charlottesville). A wise decision.
Our most sincere condolences,
Margie and Clare Maday

So sorry for your loss Amina! Our condolences to you and all your family. As you know Salah was a true inspiring to me, helping me during my PhD research (2000-2002). I will never forget how you both received me in Raleigh during that time. And since then, every time I needed inspiration, I just asked and there he was, always available! I believe Salah was the best person I had the luck to know! May God rest your soul!

I knew Dr. Elmaghraby as a very dear friend. He will be missed for sure. I loved his e-mails from China where he was asked to give a course in one of their prominent universities. He could capture the culture and describe life over there in a very precise and descriptive way that was his style.
As for his wife Amina, one of the most generous and hospitable people I knew, I can always brag about her culinary skill that stand above any one I know. I pray that God will give you the strength to face life without Salah by her side.
Dr. Salah, rest in peace in heavens.
