Raleigh

Virginia (Ginny) Williams passed away August 11, 2017. Born in Brooklyn, New York in 1936, her family moved to North Carolina when she was 10. She was a graduate of Duke University School of Nursing, class of 1956, the first nursing class awarding a B.S. RN degree. While in school, she met her husband Max, a UNC student. After a short time in Southern Pines, they moved to Raleigh in 1963 where they raised their four children. Ginny taught nursing for several years at Rex Hospital before becoming a stay- at-home mom. She was a Den Mother, PTA member, a volunteer School Nurse and a volunteer visitor for RSVP. She became an avid golfer and bridge player and was a founding member of the North Ridge Country Club Ladies Golf Association. She returned to nursing after her children were older where she worked at both Raleigh Community Hospital (Raleigh Duke) and Big Wake. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Max. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Ginn (Raleigh), her brother John Tate (Mullins, SC), children Bruce Williams (Denver CO), Cindy Rice (Cary, NC), Britt Williams (Shakopee, MN) and Terri Williams (Merritt Island, FL) and 7 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Duke School of Nursing or Transitions of Wake County. A private memorial service will be arranged for a later date.
